33-Can the Rich be Saved?

Aug 10, 2025    Pastor Christopher Thompson

Can the rich be saved? That’s the bold question Jesus addresses in Mark 10:23–31—right after a wealthy young man walks away from the offer of eternal life.

In this sermon, we examine what Jesus really said about money, trust, and salvation. The answer isn’t about having wealth—it’s about what you're trusting in.

Through the lens of the rich young ruler, the astonished disciples, and the radical call to follow Jesus, we confront the false promises of the prosperity gospel and uncover the true gospel of the Kingdom.

📖 Passage: Mark 10:23–31

📌 Big Idea: Salvation is impossible with man—but not with God.

We’ll explore:

Why Jesus said it’s “hard for the rich to enter the kingdom of God”

What “one thing” the rich man lacked

How prosperity can blind us to our need for a Savior

What Jesus promises those who do follow Him—even with persecution

The meaning behind “the last will be first, and the first last”

👥 Whether you’re financially secure, struggling, or somewhere in between, this message will challenge where you place your trust.
