02-Misconceptions: "Pastors: The Misconceptions Breaking Churches."

Feb 15, 2026    Pastor Christopher Thompson

In Acts 20:17–31, Paul speaks to the elders of Ephesus and uses three biblical lenses for the same office: elder, overseer, and shepherd. In this message, we correct common misconceptions that quietly crush pastors and weaken churches—especially the belief that the pastor is the primary minister, the CEO, or the one responsible for everyone’s spiritual growth.

Scripture gives pastors/elders a clear job description: teach sound doctrine, guard the flock from error, equip the saints for ministry, model godly character, and shepherd willingly and humbly. But Ephesians 4:11–16 also gives the church a clear calling: the body grows when every part does its share.

If you’ve ever been disappointed with church—or felt the weight of unrealistic expectations—this message re-centers the church on God’s design and calls every believer to step into mature, shared ministry through the body of Christ.
